Applications for the United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2025 are now open. It is a fully supported fellowship for the term of nine months. The 9-month period is broken into two sections. In Phase One, fellows will spend three months at DOALOS, located at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Phase two includes a 6-month Advanced Academic Research and Study course at one of the UN Nippon Fellowship’s prestigious participating host institutions in Europe, the United States, Australia, Asia, Canada, and other nations.
The UN Nippon Foundation Fellowship trains government officials and mid-level professionals from developing countries in ocean affairs, maritime law, and allied subjects such as marine science. This program will teach fellows about international legal frameworks, critical concerns, and best practices in ocean affairs, as well as the activities of the United Nations. In exchange, the fellows are expected to provide:
A 100-page written thesis.
A presentation on the research
