By General Assembly resolution 46/182, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs was founded in December 1991. The UN Secretariat’s OCHA division is in charge of bringing together humanitarian players to guarantee a cogent response to crises. OCHA further makes certain that a structure is in place so that every actor can participate in the overall reaction activities. The mission of OCHA is to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian action that is both effective and morally sound, working in collaboration with national and international actors to mitigate human suffering during emergencies and disasters, defend the rights of those in need, encourage readiness and prevention, and assist in the development of long-term solutions.

Specifications Goals and Mission The organization tasked with coordinating humanitarian advocacy, policy creation, and response is the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). OCHA assists humanitarian organizations in successfully addressing the needs of individuals engulfed in crisis, comprehending and evaluating those requirements, and coordinating global aid. It offers resources and assistance to humanitarian groups so they can guarantee that no one impacted by a catastrophe is left behind. In line with UN core principles and the OCHA People Strategy, the People and Culture Section of OCHA empowers and supports OCHA employees to contribute to and flourish in an inclusive and peaceful workplace culture for the efficient execution of OCHA’s mandate.

The unit in charge of giving staff members high-quality learning opportunities and support so they can carry out their duties to the letter is the Learning and Development Unit. Orientation and induction of new employees is one of LDU’s duties. Setting Within the first six months of their onboarding, new employees get access to a set of tools called the OCHA Welcome Package, which helps them learn about and gain an understanding of the organization’s mission and activities. The OCHA e-Foundational course: Welcome to OCHA!, which is a component of the Welcome Package, was developed by the LDU team in collaboration with all internal OCHA functional areas.

The course, which was released in 2021, gives a summary of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ mission, vision, main responsibilities, and goals. The course is offered in Spanish, French, and English. In 2023–2024, the English course was upgraded with additional material totaling between 12,000–14,000 words. OCHA LDU is currently actively looking for one Online Volunteer to help with final proofreading and translating the recently updated text from English into Spanish. Online completion of the assignment is required; the best time to begin is by the end of March 2024. Type of task Proofreading and translating from English into Spanish Task overview One online volunteer is needed to complete the following tasks:

Translate a text that is between 12,000 and 14,000 words long from English into Spanish. The entire revised course material (in English) will be sent to the online volunteer as a PDF file. The text that needs to be translated will be marked in the file. The online volunteer should put the translated text in a word document and send it to OCHA LDU. The LDU team, which consists of an assistant and an L&D officer, will collaborate with the online volunteer and offer assistance and guidance as needed.

Experience that is necessary

The virtual assistant must to possess prior experience in translating and editing texts. • Possess a strong command of the Spanish written language or be a native speaker. • Pay close attention to the nuances. • It is advantageous to have a solid grasp of humanitarian-related subjects. Regular collaboration with the LDU will be a requirement of the role; email and MS Teams are preferred.
