The International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is an inter-governmental development organization with headquarters in Rome and program offices in Kabul and several other provinces in Afghanistan. IDLO fulfils its mandate by providing training, technical assistance, research, and publication to governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local communities, and professional associations in developing countries, countries in economic transition, and countries emerging from armed conflict. IDLO began working in Afghanistan in 2001 and has become a leading partner of Afghan government, donor countries and international agencies to achieve the common goal of strengthening the rule of law. Afghanistan has been an IDLO Member Country since 2012.
Job Summary
The driver works under the supervision of the Security Specialist to support the movement of staff for the programs in Afghanistan.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for the following:
- Drive IDLO vehicles for official purposes.
- Inspect vehicles daily and ensure that their assigned vehicle is clean and road worthy, producing paperwork as necessary
- Keep a record of use of vehicle, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing and other services.
- Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, headlights, perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs.
- Be courteous, professional, and helpful whilst carrying out their duties
- To drive IDLO program and operational staff to and from their selected locations within the Afghan laws of the road, in a safe and secure manner.
- Ensure the Sicuro tracking device is working on the vehicle before departure.
- The driver must be familiar with their allocated location and drop off and pick up points and how to get to there prior to commencement of their journey.
- Know the Emergency Response plan for any attack on the vehicle or road traffic accident.
- Ensure all doors are locked during transport of IDLO staff and on reaching their selected location that exit in a safe location.
- IDLO has a no walking policy and IDLO staff are not to be dropped anywhere on a street in an unsafe location.
- To pass on any intelligence to passengers that is sent out by the IDLO security department.
- To fill in the logbook for all journeys
- Meet any IDLO personnel at the airport and provide necessary assistance for them.
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Note: This position revolves on a shift basis, including day, evening and overnight duties.

The driver’s task will ensure programs are adequately provided with needed products and services on time, helping achieve program objectives
Job Requirements
- A valid Afghan license with experience of driving AVs preferred.
- Ability to read and write.
- Essential to have a thorough knowledge of the Kabul Road networks and government institutions.
- Ability to follow security guidelines and protocols.
- Patient in following traffic regulations and maintaining speed limits.
- Willing to travel Afghanistan and flexible to work on a shift basis.
- Keen sense of ethics, integrity, and commitment to IDLO’s mandate.
Education:
- Grade 12 preferred (High Schule Graduates).
Experience:
- At minimum 5 years relevant experience
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English, Pashto and Dari is required.
