Job Description:

  • Counsels Literacy learners to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • to address both the psychological and social needs of Literacy learners and literacy facilitators.
  • Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, other counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral, academic, and other problems.
  • Provide crisis intervention to students when emergencies occur at schools.
  • Identify cases involving domestic abuse or other family problems affecting students’ development.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their relatives’ progress, and to determine their priorities for their children/relatives and their resource needs.
  • Prepare beneficiaries for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Encourage students and/or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals when necessary.
  • Enforce all administrative policies and rules governing students.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress.
  • Attend staff meetings related to the issues faced by students in their academic and personal lives.
  • Listen to the problems of Literacy learner regularly, especially when it has to do with their academic, social, or emotional lives, and suggest solutions where necessary.
  • Refer students to social welfare homes or a psychiatric/mental counselor, especially in extreme cases.
  • Review both current and past reports about the student(s), in a bid to check their progress levels and also to make further recommendations if needed.
  • Make sure that the student’s parents or guardians are actively involved in the development and administration of intervention procedures when the need arises.
  • Observe children during class and perform activities to gain additional information about them.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by the administration.
  • Any other related task as assigned by the project officer or senior management team (SMT).

Job Requirements:

  • At least Bachelor’s degree in psychology and other relevant field
  • Experience in a relevant or similar position in humanitarian projects is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in Pashto and Dari, and skills in English will also be an asset.
  • the ability to build trust and make students and parents feel relaxed
  • Enough experience working with community, and community mobilization, particularly for community participation, conflict resolution, and resource mobilization.
  • Ability to cope well under pressure, work irregular hours, and meet tight deadlines
  • Sound organizational skills and ability to prioritize and deliver assignments on time often under severe time pressures
  • Experience in coordination with government authorities, communities, donors, and beneficiaries
  • Able to visit the districts of the target province.
