Job Description:

The Cleaner/ Laundry Worker is responsible for cleaning the accommodations/ office areas as well as washing the clotes within the clients facility in Kabul. He/ She is reporting to the direct supervisor and will be responsible for the following functions.

    • Cleaning, waxing and polishing of all furniture, fixtures, artworks, counters, floors walls, windows, vertical and horizontal areas and ceiling.
    • Damp wipe top of partitions, doors, walls, skirting boards & wiring trunks.
    • Wash the dirty dishes and make sure the dishes are wiped and dried after.
    • Thorough mopping of floors with disinfectant (special attention paid to corners & edges).
    • Proper trash disposal includes emptying ash trays at smoking areas, waste baskets & other receptacles. Wash and disinfect garbage bins, ensure that the bins are left upside down to dry.
    • Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting of dining areas including washing of kitchen towels and doormats (in office areas cleaning of dining areas must take place at least 3 times daily).
    • Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting lavatories and bathrooms including washing of doormats and bathroom floorings.
    • Cleaning of path/walkways, courtyard, surroundings and ground maintenance. This involves sweeping off dust and collection and disposal of loose litter around the premises, dry leaves and other waste materials that may obstruct the flow of water into gutters, drainage pipes or downspouts.
    • Cleaning and disinfecting all safe rooms.
    • Reporting of any defects in and to area concerned e.g. broken mirrors/windows/furniture, clogged drains/toilets, water leakage, faulty switches, busted bulb/lightings, etc. during cleaning the assigned areas (offices, accommodation units, common areas and facilities).
    • Deep cleaning of lavatories and bathrooms.
    • Washing of carpets, deep cleaning of carpeted areas and polishing of tiled areas.
    • Washing of walls and ceilings made of washable materials (laminated or painted with washable paints).
    • Load and unload materials that are carried in or out of offices or accommodations.
    • Washing and drying of the cloths, bed linens, carpets, curtains, blankets etc in the designated laundry rooms.
    • Regular schedule, ad-hoc laundry service shall be provided to those tenants that are checking out or just checked in. Also, the beddings and other washable fabric items in the accommodation units shall be washed promptly after check-out of the tenants and before the next tenant’s check-in.
  • Inventory of the clothes received in and returned to the accommodation units as per the inventory.
  • Must make sure that the laundry of one room is not mixed with another and is not misplaced or lost.
  • Must ensure that clothes are segregated by type of fabric, heat resistance and color prior to laundering and laundered separately in the right temperature water, with right amount of washing powder/liquid and right detergents.
  • Must make sure the laundry room is left clean and dry, free of unwashed clothes as well as Contractor employees’ personal belongings for the use of the tenants of the respective dwelling facility outside of Contractor’s working hours.
  • Must operate the washing machines and dryers in a proper manner as per the instruction manual and inform the supervisor in case of any issues.
  • Load articles into dry-cleaning machines or washers at regular intervals to ensure steady availability of towels and linens.
  • Regulate machine processes when starting washers, driers and dry cleaners; turn levels and valves to control volume of additives, specific cycles and temperature.
  • Lubricate equipment to provide light service to machines, and clean or change machine filters when needed; alert manager when machines need professional repair.
  • Ironing the clothes.
  • Sort articles before cleaning, separating them by fabric, color, cleaning technique or dirt content for best results.
  • Sort and count articles as they are removed from dryers; hang, fold or wrap the articles according to requirements or personal attention to detail.
  • Remove stains on fabrics though application of bleaching powders and steam sprays.
  • Use a hand or machine marker to place identifying names or code numbers on dry cleaning or laundry.
  • Utilize portable machines or neutralizer solutions to tend to stain articles, through pre-soaking, spot-cleaning, sterilizing, scrubbing and drying articles as needed.
  • Distribution the cloths in a proper manner.
  • Other duties requested by direct supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • A high school certificate is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant fields and washing machines.
  • Ability to speak local languages (Dari/Pashto) and basic knowledge of English.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks with good health and stamina.
  • Ability to analyses and resolve relevant issues.
  • Consistently arrives on time and maintains regular attendance.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple instructions effectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments and tasks.
  • Basic ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors.
