Job Description:
Role Outline:
Responsible for adequately training participants as per the agreed timelines and responsibilities. They should have expertise in the subject matter as well as experience in facilitating training sessions.
Main Responsibilities:
A carpet weaving instructor is responsible for teaching and training individuals in the art and techniques of carpet weaving. They play a crucial role in imparting knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship to students interested in pursuing a career in carpet weaving or individuals looking to enhance their skills.
Instruction and Training:
- Teach students the fundamentals of carpet weaving, including loom operation, yarn selection, pattern reading, and knotting techniques.
- Demonstrate various weaving methods, such as flat weave, pile weave, or tapestry weaving, and guide students in hands-on practice.
- Provide instruction on color theory, design elements, and pattern creation to enhance students’ artistic abilities.
- Teach students about quality control, fabric selection, finishing techniques, and traditional or contemporary carpet weaving styles.
- Utilize instructional demonstrations, visual aids, and hands-on exercises to facilitate effective learning experiences.
Equipment and Tools:
- Familiarize students with different types of looms, tools, and materials used in carpet weaving.
- Instruct students on the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of looms and weaving equipment.
- Guide students in the selection and preparation of appropriate yarns, dyes, and other weaving materials.
- Teach students safe and efficient handling of tools and equipment, emphasizing proper ergonomics and safety protocols.
Cultural and Historical Context:
- Educate students about the historical significance and cultural heritage associated with carpet weaving.
- Share knowledge of different carpet weaving traditions, styles, and regional variations.
- Provide insights into the cultural, social, and economic aspects related to carpet weaving in different societies.
Classroom Management and Administration:
- Manage the learning environment, ensuring a safe, organized, and inclusive atmosphere.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and project evaluations.
- Collaborate with other instructors or departments for interdisciplinary projects or exhibitions.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum planning, and professional development activities.
Set Skill:
- Proficiency in carpet weaving techniques, including the operation of hand looms or weaving machines.
- Knowledge of different weaving patterns, yarn types, and color combinations.
- Attention to detail and strong manual dexterity for intricate and precise work.
- Ability to read and interpret design patterns, instructions, and specifications.
- Good problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and address weaving issues or defects.
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and pattern adjustments.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in a standing position for extended periods.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to adhere to workplace safety guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- Experience with maintaining weaving equipment and performing minor repairs is desirable.
- The candidate should have a diploma or equivalent in addition to completing Vocational training in Carpet Weaving.
- The candidate should have at least 3-5 years of experience in Carpet Weaving
- Previous experience in working with the local community, will be preferred.
