About Youth Health and Development Organization (YHDO):

YHDO is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 2009, registered with the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan. YHDO works with interdisciplinary professionals to develop and implement innovative, culturally appropriate, evidence-based interventions.

Job Description:

Responsibilities

General

  • Prepare community structures regarding child rights, child protection, and violence against children
  • Conduct awareness-raising workshops for CDC, Women Groups, Shura Ullama, Youth Groups, etc.
  • Identify cases of children affected by armed conflict and other emergencies
  • Referral of Identifying cases of children affected by armed conflict and other emergencies
  • Conduct a regular follow-up of the registered case
  • Keep daily records in a confidential and safe manner
  • Prepare daily and monthly reports for the direct supervisor
  • Assess and ensure the safety and protection of children after family/society reintegration
  • Ensure high quality of social services within the overall project
  • Perform any other tasks in line with the job description and assigned by the direct supervisor

Supervisory Tasks

  • Follow a developed plan of action and give early notice in case of deviations. To visit, support and supervise all clinics within a given area, monthly, and ensure that activities are implemented according to plan.
  • To assess and evaluate that health activities are by plans and regulations. Any deviation or difficulty should, when possible, be solved together with the concerned health facility staff.

Technical Tasks

  • To take note of previous records made during activities.
  •  To check the performance and its impact on improving the situation in the community.
  • To encourage the staff to form good relations with authorities.
  • To be able to do rapid assessment in case of emergencies or outbreak of diseases coordinate with other health providers and report it to the project office for further help.
  • To plan monthly, quarterly, and yearly plans of action for the visit of the clinics in the designated area of responsibilities of the supervisor
  • Assist the Project Provincial Coordinator in the development of a local work plan, budget, and proper reporting

Tasks of intra-organizational relations

  • Promote gender equality, and non-discrimination about ethnic, political, and religious background
  • To participate in workshops, seminars & conferences organized by the YHDO management

Tasks about external agencies

  • Maintain good cooperative relations with the national and provincial authorities, CDCs, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders
  • To participate actively in ensuring broad understanding and acceptance by local communities of the project and YHDO in general

Miscellaneous Tasks

  • To actively contribute to the successful development and good reputation of YHDO
  • To do any other tasks within the field of competency as the Health Service and Project Manager/Provincial Project coordinator assigns

Job Requirements:

Entry Requirements

Formal Qualifications:            

  • University degree in social services, law, or psychology
  •  Experience working on child protection projects.
  • Good knowledge about children’s rights and child protection sectors.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills in Pashto, Dari, and language
  • Able to work late hours and on irregular schedule if required
  • Experience:
  • At least three years experience in working on human rights and access to just justice-relatedects, ideally with children (2 years minimum)
  • Previous experience in Kandahar/Nangarhar will be an advantage
