Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Summary

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Area Manager Program Coordinator, the incumbent undertakes the following duties:

Conduct technical need assessment for rehabilitation and development of infrastructure projects (Protection walls, Canals, Karize, spring etc.).

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare topographical maps, based on survey data.
• Search for available topographical data (maps, GIS, Google Earth).
• Make preliminary and technical surveys for irrigation projects.
• Provide data with use of survey equipment (Total Station, Level machine and GPS).
• Calculate and process survey data.
• Preparation of maps: project plans, longitudinal profiles, cross-sections, etc.
• Guide contractors to construct works according to designs.
• Assist team and site engineer when necessary.
• Plan works in advance to facilitate timely implementation.
• Collect the essential survey data for the design engineer. Presents the maps. Takes care that data are properly filed and can be found.
• Perform other duties on request as assigned by team leader.

Job Requirements

Education:

University engineering degree in Civil and Irrigation Engineering.

Experience:

• 2-4 years relevant work experience with international organization and NGO.
• Fluent knowledge of the local languages and English.
• Collection and coordination with stakeholders
• Strong Command of Dari and English both written and spoken.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-ethnic team and take on diverse tasks.

Required Skills:

• Warm personality with strong communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to work in groups.
• Be punctual, on time, and able to meet deadlines.

Language Requirement:

Sound ability to speak local and English languages
